This beautiful ancient Roman coin is well centered and has fine detail. This coin features the portrait of Roman emperor Elagabulus, one of the most eccentric of all the Roman emperors. The coin is mounted in a high quality hand-made solid 14kt yellow gold (the bezel around the coin and the bail at the top) and sterling silver pendant with a genuine pear-shaped opal. Elagabulus become Roman emperor at age 14, with help from his mother, following the assassination of emperor Caracalla. He was named Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus, and was known as Elagabulus only after his death, due to his fondness of the Roman deity Elagabul. He was married and divorced five times. Elagabulus became unpopular due to his disregard of Roman customs and sexual taboos.  He wore make up and was purported to be transgender. Elagabulus was assassinated at age 18, along with his mother.
